Huge Character Filled Kitchen Island

Huge character filled kitchen Island bench standing 955mm high and donning a 30mm thick glossed timber top.
This piece has been our most creative and fun project to date so we owe a massive thank you to Emma for reaching out to us, to offer half a vintage workbench and words of encouragement to turn it into something truly beautiful.
We wanted to showcase the character and colours the wood already had showcasing the previous years of its life so we decided to capture this simply by coating all of the timber twice in a matte water based polyurethethane.
We then disassembled an old metal trolley, used the wheels to heighten the shorter side and make the trolley easy to manoeuvre. We then decided to use the left over rails from the trolley as 2 tea towel racks/hanging storage. We felt the top needed to be cleaned up for a food prepping station but we still wanted the history of the piece to remain. We sanded back the top to bring out the original grain then coated 3 times with an oil based polyurethane.
